Early years / Introduction to music

Darryl was born in Gary, Indiana. His family lived there for most of his formative years. As a student, Darryl took his education seriously and performed well academically. He played sports and showed an early interest in music by choosing to participate in band. He played trombone in the concert and marching bands. Also, he learned to play the bass guitar outside of school by borrowing one owned by a neighborhood friend. Being from a musically oriented, church-going family, Darryl regularly played music at church, at home and at school, which gave him plenty of opportunity to develop a passion for his gift. Music was an integral part of Darryl's early life and remains so to this day.

Family life / interests / leisure

Darryl lives with his wife and the two grandchildren they are raising, and enjoys simple times at home with his family. Additionally, he enjoys attending artistic events, participating in special gatherings with family and friends (especially when sharing a good meal!), and being actively engaged at the church he attends. Darryl's faith in God is the foundation upon which he has built his life and is the mechanism through which he believes he will fulfill his life's purpose. Darryl has a keen interest in being actively involved with and supportive of the younger generations of his family. He finds fulfillment in being of service to others. In his leisure time, Darryl likes to read, play with his grandchildren, listen to music and, time permitting, to disappear into his creative space.

Poetry and writing

When he was very young, Darryl began writing poetry. His interest waned as he grew older and began to engage in other activities. He regained interest in writing after being told repeatedly by family members, schoolteachers and others that his writing had real promise. Many years later, he has become the author of two books. He self-published a book of inspirational poetry entitled The Soul - Shaken and Stirred in 2001. In 2013 Darryl self-published a truth-based novel entitled The Last Days of Paradise & Beyond - Book 1, which is an imaginative, detailed version of the biblical account of Adam and Eve. Book 2 of the same title is soon to be published. There are other books currently in the pipeline as well. Darryl's writing is not limited to any particular genre or topic. He is able to draw inspiration to write from almost any thought or any encounter that he has, while maintaining as his primary goal the desire to draw in and connect with the reader.
